The Kitami-Esashi Station ( Jap. 北見枝幸駅 , Kitami-Esashi-eki ) is a former railway station on the Japanese island of Hokkaido . It was located in the Sōya sub-prefecture in the area of Esashi City and was in operation from 1936 to 1985.

Kitami-Esashi was the southern terminus of the 30.4 km long Kōhin north line , which branched off from the (also disused) Tenpoku line in Hama-Tombetsu . The station was in the city center and faced north-south. It had a track for passenger traffic, the station building was on the east side of the facility. Two more tracks were used for freight traffic. There was also a turntable and a private siding to a wood processing company. The line ended about 150 meters south of the station.

The station building was torn down and replaced by a bus terminal from the Sōya Bus company at a slightly south-facing location , while a newly built road follows the previous railway line .

The Ministry of Railways opened the station on July 10, 1936. The of Hama Tombetsu forth coming and ending here Kohin-North line had been planned as part of the Kohin-line running along the entire coast of the Okhotsk Sea run and Wakkanai with Abashiri should connect. In Ōmu , more than 50 km away , the Kōhin south line ended in 1935 . A significant part of the substructure already existed on the section in between , but after the outbreak of the Pacific War in July 1937, all construction work was stopped. Railway operations on the Kōhin northern line were suspended from November 1, 1944 to December 5, 1945 for reasons of rationing.

In 1960 the Ministry of Transport decided to complete the Kōhin Line, but the volume of traffic decreased significantly in the following years. There was no further construction work and the project was finally abandoned in 1977. For cost reasons, the Japanese State Railways stopped handling goods and checked baggage on February 1, 1984. A little more than a year later, on July 15, 1985, they shut down the northern Kōhin line.
