Lahti was connected to the railway line Helsinki - Riihimäki - Kouvola - Vainikkala - Vyborg (Viipuri) - St. Petersburg via the Lahti station ( Finnish. Lahden rautatieasema , Swedish. Lahtis järnvägstation ) .
history
The current building of Lahti Railway Station was completed in 1935. It is based on a design by the architect Thure Hellström . Because of the economic crisis in the 1930s, construction was carried out one floor lower than planned. The planned tower (similar to those of the Helsinki or Tampere train stations ) also fell victim to the red pen.
The station is served by lines 13 (Helsinki– Kajaani ) and 14 (Helsinki– Joensuu ) of the Finnish state railway company VR-Yhtymä . The station is also the terminus of line Z of local rail transport in the Helsinki region .
In 2006 the station was rebuilt. The completion of the Lahti – Kerava high-speed line , which went into operation on September 1, 2006, reduced travel time to Helsinki by around 20 minutes to 48 to 60 minutes (depending on the type of train).
