Mellrichstadt Bahnhof is a train station of the Deutsche Bahn in the Lower Franconian city of Mellrichstadt .

General

Mellrichstadt Bahnhof is on the Schweinfurt – Meiningen line and has been the last stop on the Bavarian side before the border with Thuringia since the Mühlfeld station was closed . From 1898 onwards, Mellrichstadt was the starting point for the route to Fladungen , which was in regular service until 1987. Since then it has been a museum railway on which the Rhön-Zügle runs. The name “Bahnhof” is related to “Mellrichstadt Stadt”, a now disused stop on this connection.

In 2018, Mellrichstadt station will be served every two hours by the Mainfranken-Thuringia Express Würzburg-Erfurt ( DB Regio ) and by the Lower Franconia shuttle Schweinfurt-Meiningen of the Erfurt Railway . In December 2008, the timetable for the Erfurt Railway Mellrichstadt – Schweinfurt trains was condensed. This resulted in a partial half-hourly rhythm. In the meantime, however, they already end in Bad Neustadt. Mellrichstadt Bahnhof is the starting point for numerous bus routes operated by Omnibusverkehr Franken (OVF) and, thanks to its location, opens up large parts of the Bavarian Rhön .

history

Train traffic on the Schweinfurt – Meiningen railway line began in 1874, and on the Mellrichstadt – Fladungen branch line in 1898. In the course of the division of Germany , the Erfurt – Schweinfurt railway connection was interrupted in 1945. Since then, Mellrichstadt has been the terminus for most trains from Würzburg and Schweinfurt , some of them continuing to Fladungen. Until the early 1980s, there were direct connections from Munich Central Station to Mellrichstadt. After reunification, the gap between Bavaria and Thuringia was closed; From summer 1993 Mellrichstadt was even an interregional stop (IR “Rennsteig” Stuttgart – Berlin). When this type of train is discontinued, however, the station will only be served by local transport.

Rail operations on the Mellrichstadt – Fladungen line were discontinued in 1987. Museum traffic has been on the route since 1996, initially only on the section between Ostheim and Fladungen, and since 2000 again as far as Mellrichstadt.

Investments

Today only tracks 1 to 3 are used. Track 1 on the house platform is only for the museum trains and is only connected to the route to Fladungen. Tracks 2 and 3 each have a side platform, usually only track 3 is used, a few trains run on track 2. There is a parking lot on the former loading tracks.

business

In 2015, the Mainfranken-Thuringia Express from DB Regio from Erfurt Hbf to Würzburg Hbf, which runs every two hours, and the regional train of the Erfurt Railway from Meiningen to Schweinfurt Hbf , which also runs every two hours, stopped at Mellrichstadt Bahnhof .
