The Mendig Station is a train station in Mendig and was in 1877 as the station Niedermendig built. It is located on the Eifelquerbahn , which is double-tracked from Andernach train station to here and continues on a single track to Gerolstein train station . The station's only turnout is to the west of the platform tracks just before the Bahnstrasse level crossing and has turnout number 23.

service

The Eifelquerbahn is served every hour by the regional train line RB 38/23 Lahn-Eifel-Bahn ((Kaisersesch-Andernach) Mayen East-Limburg).

Kaiserbahnhof

The station building was built in 1877 based on a design by the Cologne architect Gustav Päffgen . The so-called Kaiserbahnhof got its name because Kaiser Wilhelm II is said to have used it as a starting point for visits to Eifel maneuvers. It is proven that from there he visited the Maria Laach monastery in a carriage . It is considered to be one of the most beautiful historical buildings in the Mendig region.

The representative furnishings show the importance that was then attached to the railroad as a means of transport. The facade has mainly neo-Gothic style elements, the building is accessible via a two-flight platform staircase. The storeys are continuously structured with cornices, the edges of the building are emphasized by corner cuboids.

The building, which has since been restored, was converted into a residential and office building. Today it is privately owned.
