Railway stations in Thuringia |
The Neue Schenke train station is a breakpoint (former railway station) on the Weimar-Gera railway (route 6307, today KBS 565), also called "wooden runway" or " Mid-Germany Railway called".
The breakpoint was once in the area of the municipality of Zöllnitz directly behind the Jena city limits near the Lobeda-Ost residential area , and tracks and buildings to Jena have now been incorporated.
Infrastructure, connecting traffic and importance
The station was initially only opened for passenger traffic on a trial basis . In 1894, an additional siding was added, and on October 15, it was released for wagonload traffic . In the 1920s, a siding was also built, which in 1971/72 resulted in a considerable connection system at the eastern exit between the main track and the motorway, which was used to supply building materials for the large companies in this industry in the Jena area and to serve other connections. Until 1989/90, the station was of great importance for goods and connecting traffic around Jena.
During the times of the Reichsbahn , Neue Schenke was run as a dependent, manned stop.
After the fall of the Wall, the connection systems were shut down and the rails removed. In 2005 the station was downgraded to a stopping point. In 2013 the building was sold.
The platform height is 55 centimeters, the length 110 meters.
traffic
The "Neue Schenke" station is served every two hours by regional traffic on the RB line 21 ( Weimar - Jena West - Jena-Göschwitz - Neue Schenke - Gera ). This regional traffic has been operated by the Erfurt Railway since the timetable change in June 2012 and has been renamed from RB21 to EB21. The EB21 line runs from Erfurt to Gera with 15 stops at smaller stations.
Until 2014, there was no noteworthy connection to local public transport , as the train station or stop was originally not designed for passenger traffic. A walk to the nearest public transport lines took 15 minutes. Bus line 42 has been serving the stop since the 2014 local transport plan. On their route, passengers have three options to change to the tram network .
