The Neustadt (Sachs) Station is an operating agency of Bautzen-Bad Schandau railway and here starting line to Dürrröhrsdorf in the municipality of the city of Neustadt in Sachsen . The station building is a cultural monument .

history

Neustadt station has existed since the opening of the Bautzen – Bad Schandau and Neustadt (Sachs) –Dürrröhrsdorf lines on July 1, 1877. The station building was a type of construction that had been built in the same form at the other stations on the Bautzen – Schandau line.

The highest traffic performance in freight traffic was achieved in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1976, an average of 230 freight wagons were handled in entry and exit every day.

A turning point was the political turning point in East Germany in 1989/90. Within a very short period of time, there was an enormous decline in passenger and freight traffic. In the mid-1990s, a single pair of local goods trains was enough a day. At that time, only the connecting lines of the agricultural machinery plant and the Langburkersdorf roof tile plant were served from the Neustadt train station. If necessary, wagons were sent to a scrap and coal trade.

The cessation of these remaining traffic came as a result of the rationalization program MORA C (“Market-Oriented Offer Cargo”) 2001. Another loss of importance arose with the cessation of travel in the direction of Bautzen on December 12, 2004. Since then Neustadt (Sachs) has only been operated by regional railways the Pirna – Neustadt – Sebnitz – Bad Schandau route, which must change direction in Neustadt.

In 2002 the city of Neustadt in Saxony acquired the reception building and renovated it. On the west side of the reception building, a modern public transport interface to regional bus traffic was created with funds from the Upper Elbe Transport Association.

DB Netz fundamentally rebuilt the station between September 18 and 25, 2006 in line with the reduced importance of traffic . The two Jüdel 1100 design mechanical interlockings with a Saxon station block, which had existed since 1905/13 , were taken out of service. As a substitute the existing interlocking 2 was at the western end of the station with a switchboard of type WSSB equipped GS II DR. The previous form signals gave way to Hl light signals . Since then, only tracks 1 and 3 have been available for train traffic, tracks 2 and 4 were taken out of service after the points were removed. From track 1 the trains go to Pirna, from track 3 to Sebnitz. Track 5 is used as a siding.

Today the Neustadt (Sachs) station is served every hour by regional trains on the RB71 (Pirna – Sebnitz) line.

Connecting railways in the station area

Progress in agricultural machinery

The connecting line of VEB Progress Erntemaschinen Neustadt in Saxony (most recently: Case Harvesting Systems ) was the largest in terms of expansion and traffic volume that was served from Neustadt (Sachs) station. In the 1980s, 40 to 60 freight wagons were delivered daily, sometimes up to 200. For customers in the Soviet Union, the factory's products were dispatched in block trains several times a week. A collecting track with a usable length of 427 meters was available for this.

After 1990, the plant increasingly relied on road transport. Until 2001, DB Cargo still operated the connection as required. After the plant was closed in 2004, the connecting line was dismantled by the Schwarzbachbahn eV. The recovered material is to be used for the museum reconstruction of the narrow-gauge railway Goßdorf-Kohlmühle-Hohnstein .

Emil Schöne

The connecting line of the Emil Schöne coal trading company was located in Neustadt station on the west side as an extension of track 7. Freight wagons with brown coal briquettes were mostly delivered. The service of the connection ended around 2000.

Consumer warehouse

The warehouse of the consumer cooperative had a siding in the station area on the line towards Dürrröhrsdorf. It was served when needed until 1990.

Enamelling factory

The siding of the enamelling plant began at Neustadt station on the west side as an extension of track 1.
