The Olsztyn Zachodni station ( German  Allenstein West , before May 22, 1937 Allenstein Vorstadt ) is located in close proximity to the Olsztyn city center and has four tracks. Operationally, it is a stopping point , with the special feature that it is located on three routes that run parallel in the area of the station.

history

The city of Olsztyn received a railway connection with the main line from Thorn (pl: Toruń) to Insterburg (Russian: Tschernjachowsk) . Although the route ran close to the city center, the Olsztyn train station was built to the east, well outside the city center. In 1883 the branch line from Mohrungen ( Polish: Morąg ) to Allenstein was put into operation. On the western edge of the city center, the Allenstein Vorstadt stop was built .

Platforms

From the line to Morungen since 1884 a line branched off in Göttkendorf ( Gutkowo in Polish ) a few kilometers west of Allenstein in the direction of Königsberg , whose trains also stopped in Allenstein Vorstadt. In 1887, the line to Hohenstein ( Polish Olsztynek ) and Soldau ( Polish Działdowo ) was put into operation. For decades, the stop was not served by the trains in the direction of Thorn. The stop only served the trains on the lines branching off from the main line on both sides. Since 1936 or May 22, 1937, the station was called Allenstein West and was used by the trains in the direction of Thorn. It was popularly called "Little Station" to distinguish it from the Allenstein Central Station.

After the Second World War , Olsztyn came to Poland . The lines and the stop were taken over by the Polish State Railways (PKP). The station was connected to the PKP electrical network in 1986 with the line to Działdowo. In 1988 the line to Toruń followed, and in 1990 to Morąg.

All local and long-distance trains to and from Olsztyn, heading west, stop at this station.

Viaduct east of the station

The barrier-free station is operationally a stop ( przystanek in Polish ). It has four tracks, which are located on an island platform and two outside platforms. The platforms are not covered and are connected by an underpass. The northern track is on the route towards Morąg, which is already operationally separated from the other tracks and turns a few meters west of the station to the northwest. The other three tracks run parallel to a junction about two kilometers southwest, where the lines to Działdowo and Toruń separate.

On the south side is the ulica Maria Konopnicka , on the north side the ulica Artyleryjska runs . The station building south of the tracks should be renovated between 2011 and 2013. Artyleryjska Street was rebuilt in 2011. The road underpass under the tracks in the area of the stop is also to be redesigned. The historic tunnels were previously declared a monument.

The renovation work at the station was completed in mid-2017. With a volume of 3 million złoty, these comprised the renovation of the facade and the interior, the replacement of windows and doors and the entire installation. The green space in front of the barrier-free train station has been recultivated and new parking spaces, including a disabled parking lot, have been created nearby.

East of the station, the ground level and the railroad tracks crossing widened on two separate each two-track viaducts all , 21.6 meters above the water level. The northern viaduct with the track of the line to Morąg and the track towards Toruń was built in 1872, the southern one with the track from the direction of Toruń and the line to Działdowo was built in 1892. The bridges are listed.
