Railway stations in Thuringia |
The station Schleusingen is a station south of the Rennsteig . It represents the siding for the town of Schleusingen and has not been used in daily local rail transport since 1998 .
location
The Rennsteigbahn from Ilmenau , the Friedbergbahn from Suhl and the railway line from Themar converge at Schleusingen station . It is located in the lower town of Schleusingen, west of the city center. In the immediate vicinity there is a commercial area and a larger residential area. To the west he is overthrown by the Haardt and the Kohlberg.
Structural systems
Schleusingen station has three passenger tracks on two platforms. Behind it are various other tracks that lead to a three-door locomotive shed (at the north exit). At the southern end of the platform there is a signal box in the GDR style. The three-storey reception building with a goods shed as an extension is located on track 1. The station is bordered by two level crossings to the north and south.
history
In 1888 the Schleusingen – Themar railway was built. Schleusingen was connected to the railway network. Until 1904, the station was still the terminus from the direction of Themar. In 1904 the Rennsteigbahn was completed, so that it now had a northern exit to Ilmenau and thus a direct connection to Erfurt . This railway line meant an enormous economic upswing for the region on the middle Rennsteig, which was determined by great poverty. In 1911 the Friedbergbahn connected Schleusingen with Suhl, which is on the Neudietendorf – Ritschenhausen railway line . Over the years, the number of passengers on all routes that run through Schleusingen station has remained stable, even if the Friedbergbahn has lost its importance over the years due to increasingly faster bus traffic. After 1990, however, the number of passengers dropped sharply, and rail traffic over the Rennsteig became meaningless. On May 31, 1997, the Friedbergbahn to Suhl was shut down. In May 1998 the state of Thuringia canceled passenger traffic on the Rennsteigbahn, in June 1998 also to Themar.
In 2003, Rennsteigbahn GmbH leased the Rennsteigbahn together with the route to Themar, and some time later rebuilt the loading station at the former Schleusingen woodworks. For example, the Rennsteigbahn GmbH transports wood to Schweinfurt via Themar twice a week , which is delivered to Schleusingen from the Rennsteig region by the wood trading company WHF. Special trips by the Dampfbahnfreunde Mittlerer Rennsteig take place above all on the Rennsteigbahn, but also on the route to Themar at irregular intervals.
Boiler explosion on November 2, 1890
“Schleusingen, November 3rd. Yesterday morning at about 10.14 a.m., shortly before the scheduled train to Themar was supposed to set in motion, the boiler of the locomotive exploded with a violent bang that shook almost the whole city and individual parts of it were hurled far away. The roofs of the expedition and residential buildings as well as the goods shed were partly covered by the air pressure caused by the explosion, the windows and window frames and various door panels of the buildings mentioned were smashed, and the walls and ceilings of the individual rooms were damaged by cracks. The people present in the expedition room, Mr. Inspector Schmidt and Mr. Assistant Ulich, were thrown against the walls by the enormous air pressure and also received not inconsiderable injuries. Herr Bodenmeister Günther, who was just about to give the sign to leave, was also quite injured in the face ... It is to be admired that no greater misfortune has happened. If the engine driver and stoker had been on the machine at the moment of the explosion, they would hardly have gotten away with their lives. "
“On November 2, the steam boiler of the tender locomotive at Schleusingen station exploded, which caused damage to the station building in addition to the locomotive itself, while three railway officials who were employed nearby were fortunately negligibly injured. The cause of this accident could not be determined with certainty and is likely to be found in a material or workmanship defect. "
