Seven Sisters is a train station in the London Borough of Haringey , which also includes an underground station of the London Underground . The local transport hub , which is served by trains of the Victoria Line and the Abellio Greater Anglia railway company, is in the Travelcard tariff zone 3, between the main streets Seven Sisters Road and West Green Road. In 2013, 14.46 million underground passengers used the station, plus 3.426 million railroad passengers.

The station is named after the Seven Sisters ("seven sisters"), a striking group of trees. On the way to the next underground station Tottenham Hale branches off a tunnel that leads to the Northumberland Park depot. This is located at the station of the same name on the main railway line to Cambridge .

history

The station was opened on July 22, 1872 by the Great Eastern Railway , as part of the commissioning of the suburban line between Hackney and Enfield . On January 1, 1878 the so-called Palace Gates Line followed. This was built in competition with a route of the Great Northern Railway and led near the Alexandra Palace , a popular destination. British Rail ceased passenger services on this route on January 7, 1963 as part of rationalization measures. The associated platforms in Seven Sisters were demolished and the tracks removed.

On September 1, 1968, the opening of the first section of the Victoria Line between Walthamstow Central and Highbury & Islington . The renovation of the station, which received an additional entrance, could not be completed until December 1968.
