from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The St. Thomas Mount Railway Station ( Tamil : பரங்கிமலை ) is a railway station in the Indian city of Chennai . It is a hub of the Chennaier suburban railway and the Chennai Metro . A connection to the elevated MRTS railway is also under construction. St. Thomas Mount train station is located in the south of Chennai, around 1.2 kilometers as the crow flies south of the eponymous St. Thomas Mount .

railway station

St. Thomas Mount station is served by the southern line of the Chennaier suburban railway ( Chennai Beach - Chengalpattu ). Long-distance trains going south from Chennai pass the station without stopping.

Metro and MRTS station

Right next to the station for the suburban trains is the joint station for the Chennai Metro and the MRTS elevated railway. It is the end point of the Chennai Metro Green Line as well as the planned end point of the MRTS. The station is designed as a tower train station and has four levels. The Chennai Metro trains stop at the top level. The level below is intended for the MRTS trains. Underneath is a distribution floor, from which a pedestrian overpass leads to the ground level station for the suburban trains. The connection to the MRTS elevated railway, on the other hand, has been significantly delayed due to a dispute over the acquisition of land that is required for the last 500 meters of the route.
