Athletic career

After Heinz Pinkohs had become district champion in 1967 with the 2nd team of FC Hansa Rostock and had made it to the second-rate GDR league, he played his first 17 GDR league games with Hansa II in the 1967/68 season, in which he was usually called up in midfield. He also scored his first two goals in the GDR-wide league operation. As a midfielder, Pinkohs also played 13 of the 15 first round games of the 1968/69 season, after which he was delegated as part of an exchange program to the newly promoted GDR league BSG Kernkraftwerk Greifswald. There he was used as a striker in nine games by the end of the season. In 1969/70 Pinkohs played in his regular position in midfield, was used in all 30 league games and also scored his first league goal for Greifswald. Also in the following three seasons he was part of the team and played almost regularly in the right midfield position. Pinkohs played 66 of the 70 league games and scored a further eleven goals. For the 1973/74 season he returned to Rostock and joined the company sports association (BSG) shipping / port. There, too, he immediately took over a regular place as a midfielder and could be used in almost all league games. He was at times team captain and was the Rostock's top scorer four times. These were league season winners in 1981 and 1983 and took part in the promotion games to the GDR Oberliga , but each missed promotion. Pinkohs played all eight qualifying games in 1981, scoring six goals, while in 1983 he was used in six games but remained goalless. Pinkohs completed his last season in the GDR league in 1982/83, in which he still played 21 of the 22 league games and with his nine goals had lost none of his scoring danger. At the age of 40, Heinz Pinkohs ended his career as a competitive athlete after playing 340 games in the GDR league and scoring 86 goals.
