The Tokachi-Mitsumata station ( Japanese 十勝 三 股 駅 , Tokachi-Mitsumata-eki ) is a former train station on the Japanese island of Hokkaidō . It was located in the Tokachi Sub-Prefecture in the Kamishihoro City area and operated from 1939 to 1978.

Tokachi-Mitsumata was the northern terminus of the Shihoro Line leading to Obihiro . He was in a sparsely populated area south of the Mikuni Pass in Daisetsuzan National Park . At a height of 661.8 meters above sea level, it was the highest station in Hokkaidō.
The terminus , oriented from south to north, had two tracks, one of which was for passenger traffic. The station building stood on the west side of the facility. In the north, the main track led a few hundred meters further to an extensive lumber yard. There was a connection to the Otosara-Honryū forest railway . In the south, a track branched off that led to a turntable and a small depot .

The Ministry of Railways opened the station on November 18, 1939, along with the last section of the Shihoro line beginning in Nukabira . With this there was a direct connection to Obihiro . In the appendix of the revised Railway Construction Act of 1922, a continuation of the line through the Ishikari Mountains to Kamikawa was noted, but this project was never implemented.
Tokachi-Mitsumata was temporarily of great importance for forestry . The Otosara-Honryū Forest Railway, which begins here, was opened in 1944. It had a length of 8.8 km and was in operation until 1958.
On December 20, 1978, the Japanese State Railways stopped freight traffic between Kami-Shihoro and Tokachi-Mitsumata. Since passenger traffic had also declined sharply due to the population decline, the state railway set up permanent rail replacement traffic between Nukabira and Tokachi-Mitsumata on December 25 of the same year . It was the first of its kind in Japan. The Shihoro Line was nominally in operation until March 23, 1987. After that, the rail replacement service was converted into a regular bus line operated by a private operator.
The station and the associated facilities remained in place for a few years after the shutdown and were finally demolished at the end of 1998. Due to the ongoing massive population decline, the bus route that had existed since 1978 had to be discontinued in September 2003. The bus stop at the train station was removed and replaced the following month with a new one on the main road, which is served by the North Liner long-distance bus route between Asahikawa and Obihiro .
