Waterloo East Railway Station
Waterloo East is a train station in London . It is located in the London Borough of Lambeth in the Travelcard tariff zone 1. The station is connected to Waterloo station by a footbridge , but is otherwise completely independent. In 2013 it was used by 6.794 million passengers.
history
The station was opened under the name Waterloo Junction in January 1869 by the South Eastern Railway . From 1935 on it was called Waterloo Eastern , and since May 1977 it has had its current name.
Originally there was a little-used track connection between Waterloo East and Waterloo station, which led over the access ramp. In HG Wells ' novel The War of the Worlds, there is a scene in which troop trains run on this track, heading for one of the landing sites for the Martians.

Waterloo East is a through station on the route to Charing Cross terminus . Trains to the southeastern suburbs as well as Surrey , Sussex and Kent stop here . The platforms have letters instead of numbers to avoid confusion with the platforms in the neighboring Waterloo station.
Tickets are only available from machines. Passengers wishing to go to the ticket office must go to the main part of the station. There is a connection to Southwark underground station, which opened in 1999, on the Jubilee Line . The station is managed by the Southeastern company.
