BW The Weissensee (door) station is the station of the country town Weissensee in district Sömmerda in Thuringia . In 1874 it was put into operation. Passenger traffic ended in 2007. Freight traffic, which was much more important in the past, is still taking place.

location

The train station is about one and a half kilometers south of the Weißensee town center. The route runs completely outside the city and borders the street Am Bahnhof and the local industrial area connected by a siding. The Sömmerda station is located about five kilometers to the east, the Straußfurt station about seven kilometers to the west. Both neighboring stations are junction stations .

At the time of the opening, the time to walk from the city to the train station outside of the city was around ten minutes. Until the 1960s, the development on Bahnhofstrasse was still extremely small, so that going to the station and staying there presented a challenge in strong storms and rain.

history

On August 14, 1874, the railway line with the Weißensee station went into operation. Local industry and handicrafts owed their existence to the railway. In addition to passenger traffic, there was also extensive freight traffic. Before the Second World War , its handling was primarily characterized by cattle, building and fodder materials, coal and general cargo for the needs of the population. After the war, the importance of other goods increased. The people's own collection and purchase company (VEAB), which had the central grain silo system for the Sömmerda district , and the rural trading cooperative (BHG) were now the most important customers who significantly increased the turnover of goods. The BHG was responsible for the supply of bulk goods, including u. a. Cement, mineral fertilizers, coal and potatoes counted. In addition, the concrete plant, MTS / Landtechnik, Möbelwerk, Minol and the two agricultural production cooperatives used the station. Separate sidings existed for the grain silo built in 1962 for VEAB and the Minol tank farm. Almost all bulk and bulk goods as well as large components and equipment were transported by rail during this time. Tobacco was also handled in Weißensee in the 1950s and 1960s.

The loading and unloading of wagons had to be done by the companies. As there were high stand fees, the workers were exposed to great time pressure and stress. There were no costs for the first three hours of downtime. But 40 marks had to be paid for each additional hour. In the case of general cargo transport, the companies themselves did the loading and unloading. Four employees handled these tasks: a station master, a dispatcher and two so-called station helpers, whose pay was relatively low. The duty time started at 3:00 a.m. and ended at 1:00 a.m. (interrupted duty). It was planned to work eight hours a day. But until the end of the work, there was still a lot of work that was not additionally remunerated.

A train station restaurant was operated until 2007.

On March 1, 2013 it was announced that the reception building with an area of 22 square meters will be sold by 2017. It can be clearly seen that it is no longer being used. On February 27, 2015, the city of Weißensee bought the building for the minimum bid of 2,000 euros, as the adjacent land is also owned by the city.

In 1979 the Weißensee station had four tracks (see table) and nine switches. Two platforms were located south of the reception building, which were 200 meters and 205 meters long. In the last years of passenger traffic, however, there was only one platform. A 96 square meter goods shed was located immediately to the west of the building. A combined head and side ramp was available on track four. It was ten meters long. The width of the side ramp was five meters and the head ramp eight meters. The associated loading line on track four is 230 meters long. The 200 meter long rail connection to the silo runs to the northwest.

Today the station had, in addition to the continuous main track, a shunting track (183 m) and a loading track (179 m) as well as seven switches. There are long-distance telephone connections to the Straussfurt and Sömmerda train stations. There is a signal from Sömmerda and only a boundary sign from Straussfurt. Train crossings and overtaking are prohibited. Maneuvering without personnel is not permitted. The maximum speed permitted for this is 25 kilometers per hour. The responsible train control center is Sömmerda station. She is responsible for storing, handing over and taking back the driver's keys, which are used to unlock the lockers with the turnout keys in Weißensee.

A mechanical dispatcher interlocking was taken out of service on May 17, 1995.

traffic

passenger traffic

Weißensee train station sold 28,484 tickets in the 1904/05 financial year. In 1905/06 there were already 31,663 units.

Transporting people to their workplaces after World War II turned out to be very difficult and could only be solved by rail. 14 pairs of passenger trains drove on the route at that time.

When the line opened, there were just three continuous pairs of trains. For cost reasons, there were two more continuous and one divided in 1880. The same situation developed in the years after the First World War . But in the run-up to the Second World War there were 26 pairs of passenger and four freight trains. In the 1950s the volume of traffic leveled off at twelve pairs of passenger trains with around 5000 passengers. In 1960 there were 13 passenger and 17 freight train pairs.

Until 1989, the importance of the line and station in passenger transport was particularly high. Thousands of commuters used the station. The platforms were always overcrowded with people. More than 7,000 travelers were on the route every day.

On December 9, 2007, passenger traffic on the western section of the peppermint railway between Sömmerda and Straussfurt was stopped. Since then, no regional trains have stopped in Weißensee.

Freight transport

In 1905/06 456 tons of general cargo and 4724 tons of truckloads were handled. 5938 waybills were issued for this. The numbers for 1906/07 were as follows: 534 t general cargo, 7645 t wagon loads and 6226 waybills.

In the 1950s and 1960s, one or two general cargo wagons were handled every week and around 300 wagons a month.

General cargo traffic no longer takes place today. Today the Total tank farm, the IRUSO grain silo and Mubea are the customers in freight transport.
