The streckemigród – Wąsosz railway was a single-track railway connection between the cities of Żmigród ( German  Trachenberg ) and Wąsosz ( German  Herrnstadt ) in the Polish Voivodeship of Lower Silesia . It was opened in September 1886 and was used for passenger and freight traffic until the end of 1960.

history

Between 1883 and September 1886, the railway line was built by the Oberschlesische Eisenbahn AG along the Prussian districts of Militsch , Guhrau and Wohlau and then used for passenger and freight traffic. 1937 one closed the station Węglewo (Eng. Wanglewe ). At the end of 1960 the entire line was closed and in April 1975 it was dismantled. However, the section between Węglewo and Żmigród remained and was expanded in 1996 by a ring-shaped test track of the Warsaw Instytut Kolejnictwa (German Railway Institute ). In addition to the preserved Węglewo – Żmigród section, several station buildings and remains of the track bed still bear witness to the former railway connection.

The railway line ran through today's districts of Wołów , Góra and Trzebnica and had a total of nine stations . These were in the towns of Żmigród and Wąsosz as well as in the villages or hamlets of Węglewo ( German  Wanglewe ), Barkówko ( German  Klein Bargen ), Barkowo ( German  (large) Bargen ), Białawy Wielkie ( German  Tschepline ), Białwy ( German  Pakuswitz ), Kamień Górowski ( German  fireplace ) and Płoski ( German  Pluskau ). The three-kilometer section between Płoski and Wąsosz had the highest gradient of the entire route at 3.1 ‰ .

The section Żmigród – Węglewo that has been preserved is followed by a 7.725 km long ring-shaped test track . This is operated by a branch of the Warsaw Instytut Kolejnictwa ( German  Railway Institute ), which examines, among other things, the resilience and safety of trains.
