The Brozeula – Zqaltubo railway branches off in a northerly direction from the Georgian railroad , the Poti – Baku railway line , and ends in Zqaltubo .

history

The route is 23 kilometers long. It was built in the Russian broad gauge , went into operation in 1935 and was continuously electrified with 3000 V direct current in 1953 . Until the renovation of the Kutaisi-1 station ( Kutaisi Tschawtschawadsis Kutscha ) on the Rioni – Tqibuli railway line in 2010, a large part of the trains going to Kutaisi ended at Kutaisi-2 station. Since then, Kutaisi-2 station has only been served by four pairs of trains a day to Tskaltubo, one of which is connected to Kutaisi-1 via Brozeula – Rioni (the Poti – Baku railway line). There is no other rail connection with Kutaisi-1. After branching off from the Poti – Baku railway line, the two railway lines no longer have a track connection with each other. Both stretches are at least two kilometers apart and the Rioni River lies between them .
