The La Dorada – Chiriguaná railway is a 523 km long narrow-gauge railway from La Dorada to Chiriguaná in Colombia with a gauge of 914 mm (3 feet ).

history

At the end of 2013, the contract to rehabilitate the line was awarded to the Temporary Central Railway Union . Together with the renovation of the 257 km long Bogotá – Belencito railway line from Belencito to the capital Bogotá , US $ 100 million were planned for a construction period of 18 to 24 months. A much-discussed change of gauge to a standard gauge line with a gauge of 1435 mm was discarded due to the significantly higher costs.

The first test drive was carried out in October 2016 with a 360 t freight train loaded with containers. It took four days to pass the route, which had not been used continuously for 16 years and runs through the departments of Magdalena , Cesar , Santander , Antioquia and Caldas . Two GR12 locomotives pulled 10 freight cars with 20 containers.
