The Bogotá – Belencito Railway is a 257 km long narrow-gauge railway line from Bogotá to Belencito in Colombia with a gauge of 914 mm (3 feet ).

history

The Bogotá – Belencito railway line has been renovated since February 2014. Together with the renovation of the approximately 750 km long Chiriguaná – La Dorada railway line, a construction period of 18 to 24 months was planned for US $ 100 million. A much-discussed change of gauge to a standard gauge line with a gauge of 1435 mm was discarded due to the significantly higher costs.

In January 2016, the Colombian Infrastructure Agency ( Agencia Nacional de Infraestructura ) (ANI) started tendering for 720 million Pesos for the operation of the 257 km long route from Bogotá to Belencito. One of the most important applicants was Dracol Líneas Férreas , who had previously operated the narrow-gauge line with 80 employees under a contract that expired on February 28, 2016. In particular, cement was transported from Belencito to Bogotá, but also passenger traffic was carried out u. a. for students from Bogotá to the universities of Zipaquirá.

Since the previously used locomotives and wagons can no longer be repaired, new rail vehicles will be required. Holdtrade, the Latin American sales representative of the South African company Transnet Engineering, is one of the providers being considered for the procurement of new rail vehicles.
