The Fischamend – Mannersdorf line is a branch line in Lower Austria .

history

In 1882 the civil engineer Oskar Baron Lazarini from Graz submitted the concession to build a line from the Schwechat train station via Fischamend, Klein Neusiedl and Götzendorf to Mannersdorf , in order to connect the industrial companies around the Fischa as well as the quarries and lime and gypsum distilleries at the foot of the Leithagebirge to the railway network to connect. The concession was granted on May 19, 1882, construction of the 29.56 km long line began on February 21, 1883 and ended that same year. The opening took place on January 6, 1884.

Since the trains of the private railway did not enter the Götzendorf station of the StEG , the eastern line had to be crossed east of the station on a dam and a 16 meter long iron bridge. The state administration has reserved the right to redeem the route in the concession document. The local railway was acquired by StEG on July 1, 1884 for a purchase price of 810,000 guilders and a 413 meter long loop was built northeast of the station. This enabled trains coming from Fischamend to go directly to Götzendorf station. Trains coming from Mannersdorf continued to drive over the bridge and pushed back into the station from the branch point. At that time, two pairs of trains were running on the route every day.

In 1894, the "Kaltenleutgender Kalk- und Zementfabriks AG" built a cement works near the Mannersdorf train station, which was connected to the train station by a connecting railway. In 1905 the merger with Perlmooser Zementwerke AG took place . The high volume of freight resulted in numerous mixed trains .

After the nationalization of the StEG and the takeover by the kkStB , the southern connecting track went into operation on July 17, 1913. There was no longer any need to drive over the steep ramps of the bridge, which up until now has often caused trains to stall due to the low power of the locomotives. The bridge over the Eastern Railway was not dismantled until 1918.

The motor vehicle service of the Austrian Federal Railways (KÖB) took over the transport of passengers by bus on May 22, 1932 in the section between Fischamend and Götzendorf. Between Götzendorf and Mannersdorf there was only a limited number of passenger trains available during the summer months. However, on December 28, 1932, a timetable tailored to the trains of the Eastern Railway was drawn up so that train traffic could be started in the event that bus traffic was discontinued (e.g. when snow drifts). However, it cannot be determined whether this case ever actually occurred.

The Reichsbahndirektion Wien reactivated passenger traffic between Fischamend and Mannersdorf in 1940. On May 17, 1943, the “Fasangarten (Niederdonau)” stop at the barracks south of Götzendorf went into operation. On December 3, 1951, passenger traffic between Fischamend and Götzendorf was again suspended. Only one pair of trains remained between Götzendorf and Mannersdorf, the remaining courses were taken over by the KÖB. Since October 5, 1952, the section has been integrated into the Eastern Railway's timetable.

Due to the lack of freight traffic and the poor state of the superstructure, the section from Schwadorf to Götzendorf was closed in 1973 - the superstructure was renovated three years later, because at that time, due to the new route of the Pressburg Railway, the connection of the connecting railways was only planned from Götzendorf.

The Fasangarten stop was no longer served for the 1977 summer schedule, it was closed on September 25, 1977. The last passenger freight train ran on May 21, 1982. Passenger traffic was discontinued on May 23, 1982, although it was still running ten years later In the timetable picture 7 of the Eastern Railway, the note “Between Götzendorf and Mannersdorf there is currently no rail traffic!”.

While freight traffic to Mannersdorf has been handled unchanged from Götzendorf station since then, there have been changes over the years on the northern section: up to the timetable year 1984/1985, the stations and connecting railways were operated alternately from Groß Schwechat or Götzendorf stations. For personnel-related reasons, the division then took place, with the drive from Götzendorf to Schwadorf and from Groß Schwechat to the Polsterer Mühle. The section between km 15.500 and 17.300 was closed, but remained passable for special or diversion trains. A few years later, the blocked section was moved south between the EVVA connecting line and Götzendorf station. Freight traffic is now handled exclusively via Schwechat.
