Åstorp – Höganäs railway to Åstorp

The Höganäs – Mölle ( Swedish Höganäs – Mölle Järnväg ) (HMöJ) was an approximately ten kilometer long standard-gauge railway in Skåne in Sweden . It was put into operation in 1910 by private investors between Höganäs and Mölle .

history

The Höganäs – Mölle railway was built in 1910, mainly to make the way to Mölle easier for summer visitors. Most of the investors were hotel owners in the coastal region of Kullen, as well as the municipality of Brunnby and the city of Helsingborg .

A railway construction committee was formed in January 1905. His job was to raise the necessary funds for the construction and to negotiate with the landowners along the railway line. Construction of the line began on December 1, 1908. The estimated cost was 425,000 kroner , in the final calculation the total cost was 700,000 kroner.

business

The route was inaugurated with a big celebration on May 1st, 1910. The vehicles are rented by the company of Statens Järnvägar (SJ). The most frequently used steam locomotives were the Da and W series . The route was very busy in summer. However, the company quickly got into financial difficulties because traffic was low for the rest of the year. The railway company went into liquidation in late autumn 1914 . Traffic was stopped in the winter of 1914/15 and resumed on March 15, 1915.

SJ solved the problem, much to the relief of the former owners, by purchasing the entire system on January 1, 1920 for 360,000 crowns. The line was electrified in 1937. After that, the D series was the most common locomotive on the line. In the 1950s, the trains were railcars of type Y6 replaced.

Train stations

In Höganäs, traffic was carried out from Höganäs Nedre from the start . Höganäs Centralstation was built in 1919 and the main traffic moved there. The so-called Mölleporten , a viaduct over the Höganäsbolaget siding , led to beach bathing . Its station building as well as that of the next two stations had the shape of a tent roof . The next stop was Nyhamnsäge , the building was demolished. In Nyhamnslag a siding led to Nyhamns Trävaruaffär , a wood processing company and the only company that used the railway. The penultimate stop was Krapperup , built by Baron Gyllenstierna , the owner of Krapperup Castle . The terminus was Mölle , where there was a roundhouse with space for two locomotives. Before that was a 15-meter turntable . In addition to the large station building, there was a goods shed and a post office.

Shutdown

The last train left on September 27, 1963. There is a film about this farewell trip. The line was dismantled immediately and the embankment is now a pedestrian and cycle path between Höganäs and Mölle. The station buildings, with the exception of Nyhamnslag, have been preserved. In Mölle, it is used by the municipal administration, the outbuilding houses the art gallery Galleri Stations . The buildings are renovated. Remnants of the lighting and the overhead line are still there, as well as a buffer stop , the foundation of the water crane and the remains of the locomotive shed.
