Swell:

The Åstorp – Kattarp – Höganäs railway is an approximately 27-kilometer standard-gauge railway in Sweden . It was built in 1885 by Skåne – Hallands Järnvägsaktiebolag (SHJ), a private railway company , between Åstorp and Höganäs .

Skåne – Hallands Järnvägsaktiebolag

The Skåne – Hallands Järnvägsaktiebolag was a private railway company that built a railway line between Helsingborg and Halmstad via Kattarp and Ängelholm . Ängelholm was planned as the end point from the start. On the advice of Consul Petter Olsson , further perspectives were examined and Halmstad set as the northern end point.

The 92 km long main line was completed in 1885 after extensive and costly construction work by the Landborgen and Hallandsåsen . Crossing the Landborgen was only possible with a large tunnel, while the route in Hallandsåsen required many curves through the Sinarpsdalen .

From 1892 on, the traffic from Helsingborg to Gothenburg shifted to the new contiguous main line along the coast. Since the railway company owned part of it, it was nationalized in 1896 and thus part of the Västkustbana .

history

The company owned Åstorp – Kattarp – Höganäs Järnväg , which was opened at the same time . This route led from Höganäs on the coast to the Åstorp railway junction inland. The main line was crossed at Kattarp, about halfway between Ängelholm and Helsingborg. The 27 km long route was built to a lower standard and financed primarily by Höganäsbolaget , a metal powder manufacturer.

In 1896 Statens Järnvägar took over the Åstorp – Kattarp – Höganäs railway alongside the Västkustbanan . The line was electrified in 1937.

Passenger traffic between Höganäs and Kattarp was discontinued in 1972, freight traffic followed in 1992. This section of the route was dismantled in 1997.

In Ingelsträde , as a reminder of the past, the station area remained unchanged with all the tracks, platforms, signals and the catenary masts with the catenary. The station building is privately owned.

The section between Åstorp and Kattarp is still in operation and serves as a diversion line for the Kristianstad – Helsingborg railway line .
