Hallandsåsen

Hallandsåsen from the south

The Hallandsåsen is up to 226 m high ridge in southwestern Sweden . The area with imperial interests forms the natural dividing line between the historical provinces (also " landscape ", Swedish landskap ) Schonen ( Skåne ) and Halland and is therefore also the highest point in Skåne. Because of its natural beauty, it is partly used as a recreation area. Two ski lifts open up a ski area that is also popular with Danes.

The predominantly of gneiss existing Horst forms a 10 km wide and about 40 km long bars on the west coast, which is an obstacle to the traffic routes along the coast. The E6 motorway is so steep at this point that some trucks even have to be towed because they cannot climb the incline. To expand the capacity of the railway line and shorten travel times, construction of the Hallandsås tunnel began in 1992 and went into operation at the end of 2015. As a result of the environmental scandal that occurred in the course of the construction work in 1997, Hallandsåsen gained a dubious fame.
