The Khlong Sip Kao – Kaeng Khoi (also: Khlong 19 – Kaeng Khoi ) railway line is a bypass of the greater Bangkok area in rail traffic between the overseas ports on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand , Laem Chabang and Map Ta Phut , and the north of the country. It belongs to the network of the Thai State Railways . The route is kilometered from Bangkok Hua Lamphong .
history
After the Chachoengsao Junction – Sattahip railway to the ports went into operation in 1990, the Bangkok transport hub was to be relieved of traffic to the northern and northeastern lines. The construction of the necessary clasp between the east runway on the one hand and the north and northeast runway on the other was technically relatively complex due to the terrain . Numerous larger bridges had to be built in the southern section, which ran through flat terrain, because of the numerous khlongs . In the mountainous northern section, on the other hand, the 1197 m long Phra Phutthachai Tunnel was the second longest railway tunnel in Thailand. The route was opened on August 19, 1995. It is used exclusively for freight traffic .
