The Angerburg – Lötzen railway ran through East Prussia in what is now Poland . It ran in Masuria in a north-south direction, connecting the two district towns of Angerburg ( Polish : Węgorzewo ) and Lötzen (Giżycko).

history

The city of Angerburg was connected to the East Prussian railway network in 1898 with the Königsberg – Angerburg railway. A year later, the Angerburg – Goldap line went into operation, followed by the line to Lötzen in 1905 and the line to Rastenburg in 1907 . The last route to Gumbinnen was put into operation in 1914 .

Like the other railway lines that led to Angerburg, the new line was under the authority of the Reichsbahndirektion Königsberg . It covered 34.6 kilometers and was built in the track width 1435 mm. There were eight train stations along the route. In Kruglanken (Polish: Kruklanki ) there was a connection to the railway line to Marggrabowa (Oletzko) / Treuburg (Polish: Olecko ), which had been put into operation in 1908.

In Lötzen, the Angerburg – Lötzen railway met the Königsberg – Prostki line , which had already been opened on August 12, 1868 in the section from Lyck (Polish: Ełk ) to Rastenburg (Polish: Kętrzyn ). Since 1906 there was also a connection to a railway line to Johannisburg (Pisz) in Lötzen .

The entire line from Angerburg to Lötzen existed until it was partially destroyed in 1945. While the first section to Kruglanken was then abandoned, the second section to Lötzen was still in operation until 1987. In 2002 the line was dismantled.
