The Lubań Śląski – Leśna railway is a branch line in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland . It leads in the Polish part of Upper Lusatia from Lubań ( Lauban ) through the Queistal to Leśna ( Marklissa ).
history
The railway line from Lauban to Marklissa was built by the Prussian State Railways , which opened the line on May 15, 1896. In the second half of the 1920s, the railway line was electrified, and electric train operations began on June 22, 1928.
The railway survived the Second World War undamaged, although major disputes took place around Lauban (see also Lower Silesian Operation # Attack against Lauban and Görlitz ). After the Second World War, the Lubań – Leśna railway was operated by the PKP . The overhead line was dismantled in the summer of 1945 .
On October 1, 1991, passenger traffic was stopped, and in October 1999 the line was shut down completely. Only the connection of a basalt works at Księginki was still served. Since 2008, freight trains have been running to Leśna again, which also serves a quarry.
