The Nijkerk – Ede-Wageningen railway is a railway line in the Dutch province of Gelderland and runs from Nijkerk to Ede . Since 1951 only the section between Barneveld and Ede has been in operation.

history

In the 19th century numerous drafts for a railway connection between Ede and Nijkerk were made. Therefore, various commissions were formed from heads of the surrounding towns. After the Dutch railway company De Veluwe was founded on December 10, 1896, concrete plans were developed. These provided for costs of 500,000 guilders . The construction of the line was carried out by the De Veluwe railway company. On May 1, 1902, the Barneveld – Ede section was put into operation, the Nijkerk – Barneveld section was opened on December 1, 1903. The Nederlandsche Centraal-Spoorweg-Maatschappij was initially responsible for managing the line until the Staatsspoorwegen im In 1919 they took over the operation of the Nederlandsche Centraal-Spoorweg-Maatschappij and the train service has been operated by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen since 1934 . The Nijkerk – Barneveld section was closed three years later. In the same year a connection to the Amsterdam – Zutphen railway line was laid north of Barneveld . From then until September 1944 only trains ran between Amersfoort and Ede. The section was then closed due to material deficiencies. After the end of the war, the Barneveld – Ede line was electrified and reopened on May 20, 1951. At the beginning of the 21st century, the railway line was transferred to the province of Gelderland. At the beginning of the 2007 annual timetable, Connexxion took over train services from the Nederlandse Spoorwegen.
