The railway Novy-Jamburg ( Russian Железная дорога Новый Уренгой-Ямбург ) is a single-track, electrified railway track in the northwest of the Asian part of Russia , which from the rail branch Novy the Arctic Circle rail in the Russian track width (1520 mm) north to the location Jamburg or . the eastern bank of the Obbus . This railway line, which has been in operation since 1986, runs entirely through the territory of the Yamali-Nenets Autonomous Okrug .
Planning and construction
By the resolution of the then Council of Ministers of the USSR and the Central Committee of the CPSU , the construction of the line was brought into being - as they said at the time - at the expense of capital investments by the "natural gas industry". According to the plan, the route sections were gradually put into operation between 1983 and 1986.
owner
Today the Yamal Railway Company is the owner and operator of the railway . The joint-stock company was founded in 2003 by the administration of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug , the Sverdlovsk Railway as the regional directorate of the Russian Railways (RŽD) and the Sevtyum Transput as a joint venture . The Russian government has thus decided to promote the shifting of gas production to the Jamburg gas field (after all the third largest in the world ) and to equip and operate it with the necessary materials. RŽD TEP70 locomotives operating on the route . However, the trains belong to the oil and gas production companies, which are also used by them. The joint venture between Gazprom and Wintershall plays a key role in this region .
Usage
Due to the discovery and the decision to exploit the Jamburg gas field with an estimated extractable volume of 7 trillion m³ at the time, a year-round supply possibility had to be created there. Since the obbus was frozen over for many months, the decision was made to build a railway from Novy Urengoy to Jamburg. When the railroad began operating in July 1986, equipment for gas generation, as well as road slabs, pipes, etc. were delivered. Later two to three freight trains with passenger transport were added daily .
business
For the long and stormy winter, embankments 8-10 meters high had to be piled up along the railway line to protect them from snow drifts and thus from operational downtimes. TE3 or two TEM2 (TEM2 in double traction ) drove from Novy Urengoy to Jamburg .
Since June 2015 there have been reports that large parts of the route - which is also called the “street of life” by the residents - are not used. Only the section from Novy Urengoy to Yevoyacha station will remain in operation. The Yamal Railway lists the stations as "temporarily out of service".
The paved road parallel to the railway line can be used all year round.
