The class Т BaureiheМ2 (German transcription TEM2) locomotive of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) was a broad-gauge diesel locomotive that appeared as a further development of the previously manufactured ТЭМ1 . Together with the ЧМЭ3, it represents the dominant shunting locomotive on the railways of the former USSR .

history

In 1959 the Bryansk locomotive factory worked out a project for a reinforced diesel locomotive of the ТЭМ1 series . The main difference to the original locomotive was the equipment, diesel engine PD 1 of the diesel engine plant Pensa . The performance of the machine equipment could be increased to 1,200 HP.

In 1960 the plant delivered two locomotives and in 1961 another locomotive. These were thoroughly tested at Lichobory der Moskowskaja schelesnaja doroga , after which a total of 8983 locomotives were built by the year 2000. The powerful shunter was used on all railroad networks of the former USSR . The supply of fuel, oil, water and sand allowed a maneuvering time of up to ten days without retrofitting. The locomotive entered easily in curves up to 80 m radius and could be operated in multiple controls.

The diesel engine PD1M with an output of 1,200 hp is installed on the diesel locomotive . This engine was created on the basis of the D50, 2D50 and 2D50M engines. The locomotives also differed from their predecessor types in terms of their superstructures: the side walls of the driver's cab are designed without inclination for easier route observation. The main generator and some smaller auxiliaries were also changed. In the process of their long production, the locomotives went through the following design changes;

  • from number 0004 onwards, some minor changes were made to the electrical equipment ( drive motors , drive switches with eight speed steps ),
  • from the number 0016 on, the traction motors and the bogies were changed,
  • from number 0017 on, special fuses , modified wheel tires and different lighting were used in the safety chain ,
  • from the number 0028 on the gear ratio was changed,
  • from the number 0053 on there was a possibility for the supply with a stationary power supply,
  • from 1968 the modified PD-1M diesel engine was used,
  • from number 0250 on, the high-voltage chamber was welded to the main frame, earlier it was a bolt-shaped connection,
  • from the number 0300 onwards a system for the automatic starting of the diesel engine was used,
  • from number 0500 on there was a system of automated locomotive signaling,
  • from the number 0763 on there was multiple control ,
  • from the number 0943 on the cooling system was reduced,
  • From the number 1145 on, the locomotive was converted to be operated by only one driver.

In addition to the Bryansk locomotive factory , the locomotive was manufactured in the Luhansk locomotive factory from 1969 to 1979 . The diesel locomotive ТЭМ2-0580 was delivered in 1970 with a state quality mark . The locomotives were also delivered to Mongolia , Poland and Cuba . In Poland they were given the designation SM 48 . From 1976 onwards 130 machines were manufactured. Some industrial companies in Poland also received this locomotive. There they were given the designation TEM 2

Modifications

TEM2A

The locomotive could be used for both the 1,520 mm and 1,435 mm gauge .

TEM2M

Of this modification, a total of 286 diesel locomotives were manufactured from 1974 to 1984 and were only intended for industrial companies. The difference to the TEM2 was that it was equipped with the modified 2-6D49 diesel engine from the Kolomna machine factory . The change in the diesel engine also brought about some other changes in the machine equipment.

TEM2T

This modification was intended for use in areas with a tropical climate.

TEM2U

This modification appeared in 1978. In contrast to the original variant, it had a modified form of the superstructure and the driver's cab. At the same time, a number of equipment in the machine system was changed (new control panel, silencer , improved thermal insulation, etc.). The construction of the diesel engine and generator, the spring suspension and the electrical control of the heating of the cooling water have been improved. The friction mass increased to 123.6 t. The diesel locomotive could be used for both 1,520 mm and 1,435 mm gauges. Series production of the machines began in 1984.

TEM2UC

After building the TEM2-1983 test diesel locomotive with an electromagnetic device to increase the frictional load , the Brjansk locomotive factory produced the TEM2UC-0001 test diesel locomotive in 1978 . After extensive tests, there was no need to manufacture further locomotives with this system.

TEM2UM

TEM2UM series

This modification was delivered from 1988 onwards. She had the modified 1PD-4A diesel engine generator unit . A total of 1084 diesel locomotives of this series were delivered to both industrial companies and the state railways by 2000.
