The railway Passow-Schwedt is only the freight serving branch line to the northeast of Brandenburg . Officially, only the section between Passow and the Stendell freight yard is declared as a railway line , whereas the ten-kilometer follow-up line to the PCK refinery and once further to the Angermünde – Schwedt (Oder) branch line is a connecting line .

Both sections are owned by PCK Raffinerie GmbH , which also operates the railway between Stendell station and the refinery.

Route

The line branches off the main Berlin – Szczecin line around 500 meters north of Passow station and ends around six kilometers further east at the Stendell freight station. In the further course of the railway it is divided into several connections to the PCK refinery. To the south of this, another connection led to the Angermünde – Schwedt branch line.

history

Track systems at Stendell station in the oil processing plant, 1974

The connection was established in the early 1960s by the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) as an access route to the petrochemical combine . On December 18, 1963, a train on Signal entered the station for the first time. It was the special train of the Council of Ministers to open the friendship pipeline . Regular operations began on January 1, 1964. On February 24, 1964, signal box 1, designed as a central signal box, went into operation at Stendell station.

The section to Stendell was included in the DR's electrification program in the 1980s. On December 20, 1987, the Angermünde – Passow – Stendell connection was handed over to electrical operation.

The PCK originally also had a connection to the Angermünde - Pinnow - Schwedt railway line . Even after operations on this connecting track had ceased, it was possible for a long time to put it back into operation in the event of disruptions on the line via Passow. With the construction of a bypass road around Schwedt / Oder ( Bundesstrasse 2n ) in 2006, however, this connection was cut and partially dismantled. A kind of turning loop was then created.

The city and the Schwedt port company plan to connect the Schwedt port , which opened in 2001, via the Stendell station. For this purpose, a nine-kilometer new line with an intersection structure is to be built on the main road. Two paper mills in the urban area, which were previously connected to Schwedt train station by sidings, are to be opened up via the new route. In October 2010, the construction of the siding to the port began, which, however, will initially be connected to Schwedt station on the line from Angermünde. The connection to Stendell train station will later replace the existing connection if there is a corresponding demand for transport.

In a train accident on the evening of April 13, 2009, two tank cars derailed on a bridge in Stendell, where one car was damaged. 60 tons of petrol leaked .

Stendell freight yard

Like the railway line, the Stendell freight yard belongs to the PCK Schwedt refinery . In the station, the incoming and outgoing trains of the PCK are handled. Two wagon drainage mountains and their bypasses are available for this. The wagon drain hill in the exit area is no longer used as such.
