The Angermünde-Schwedt Railway is a single-track branch line in the Uckermark district of Brandenburg . It connects the cities of Angermünde and Schwedt / Oder as well as the municipality of Pinnow with each other. A number of other stops on the move, however, were given up in the 1990s.

Today, the route is operated every two hours by the regional express line RE 3 via Eberswalde and Berlin to Lutherstadt Wittenberg . Since the timetable change in December 2014, the regional train line RB 61 , which only runs between Schwedt and Angermünde and is operated by NEB Betriebsgesellschaft mbH , has been running Monday to Friday , while the regional express line RE 3 , which runs towards Berlin, continues to operate from the DB Regio is operated. Both lines run alternately on these days, so that there is an hourly service between Angermünde and Schwedt. Since then, the regional train line RB 61 has replaced the amplifier train on line RE 3 between Angermünde and Schwedt.

Route description

course

At Angermünde train station, the train leaves the main Berlin – Szczecin line and runs in a long curve towards the east. Between Pinnow and Schwedt, the new federal highway 2 runs largely parallel to the route and crosses it a total of four times.

Railway stations and stops

Hp Mürow

The Mürow stop (km 5.4) had a simple side platform. It was served between 1888 and May 27, 1995.

Bf Pinnow (Uckermark)

At Pinnow train station (km 8.9) there is the only possibility of a train crossing along the route. There is only one platform on one track, the crossing track has no platform.

Hp Pinnow (Uckermark) Ost

The Pinnow Ost stop (km 10.0) was built in the 1960s to connect the NVA's Pinnow repair plant . It has only been served irregularly since 1996 and finally closed on May 23, 1998.

Bf Netherlands

The train station (later stop) Netherlands (km 13.0) served to connect the formerly independent municipality of Netherlands, now part of the municipality of Mark Landin . It existed from 1888 and was closed on May 27, 1995 due to insufficient usage.

Schwedt-Heinersdorf station

The Schwedt-Heinersdorf train station (km 16.7) was opened in 1888. To distinguish it from the other Heinersdörfern, it was later given the addition (Kr. Angermünde) and was renamed Schwedt-Heinersdorf after the incorporation to Schwedt . Since 1994, only one pair of trains has stopped a day at the station, which has meanwhile been converted into a stop, and it was closed on May 27, 1995.

Hp Schwedt (Oder) West

The Schwedt West stop (km 20.8) was located directly at the confluence of the siding of the PCK refinery with the branch line. It was opened on September 26, 1976 and abandoned on November 20, 1997 in favor of the better located Schwedt (Oder) Mitte stop.

Hp Schwedt (Oder) Mitte

The Schwedt Mitte stop (km 21.7) is located about 900 meters east of the Schwedt West stop. It was opened on November 21, 1997 as a replacement for this one with a simple side platform. The new station is closer to the city center and is also the central stop of the city bus network.

Bf Schwedt (Oder)

The Schwedt terminus (km 23.1) was opened to traffic together with the line on December 15, 1873. It is located north of the medieval core city. In addition to a side platform for passenger traffic, the station also had freight transport facilities. To the east of the terminus there is a siding to the LEIPA paper mill and on to the Schwedt port .

history

Pinnow train station

For the connection of the Szczecin Railway to the Oderhafen in Schwedt, the newly founded Angermünde-Schwedt Railway Company (ASE) received the concession on March 25, 1872 to build the approximately 25-kilometer route. After around one and a half years of construction, the single-track branch line was opened on December 15, 1873, and initially had no intermediate stations between the two terminal stations. For financial reasons, the Berlin-Stettiner Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (BStE) took over the management and also provided the rolling stock. Six years later this was nationalized and the operation was taken over by the Prussian State Railways .

Around 1888, several intermediate stops were put into operation along the railway, including in Pinnow and the Netherlands.

During the timetable year 1944/45, seven pairs of trains ran daily on the route. These were limited to the main route and were not extended beyond Angermünde.

In the 1990s, several stations were shut down due to a lack of demand. At the same time, Schwedt West station was closed and replaced by the more centrally located Schwedt Mitte stop. From then on, the railway was served by the RE 3 regional express line . However, since this ran with class 143 electric locomotives , but the train itself was not yet electrified, class 232 diesel locomotives , and more rarely class 219 , were pulled in front of the train at Angermünde station , which then pulled the trains to Schwedt. In contrast, the amplifiers, which also only shuttle between Angermünde and Schwedt, were served by class 628/928 diesel multiple units.

Since this operational management was very complex, the Brandenburg state government decided at the end of 2004 to electrify and upgrade the line for around 7.4 million euros. In addition to the installation of overhead lines, all important level crossings along the railway were secured and the line designed for a maximum speed of 80 km / h. Since the timetable change in December 2005, the route has been operated electrically.

In the later 2000s, an amplifier train was introduced on the RE 3 regional express line between Angermünde and Schwedt during the week in order to be able to cope better with the increased number of passengers on this section of the route and to be able to guarantee an hourly rail connection between Berlin and Schwedt.
