Angermünde station building

The station Angermünde is a transportation hub in northeastern Brandenburg . The station, which opened on November 15, 1842, is located on the Berlin – Szczecin line and is the starting point for the Angermünde-Stralsund Railway to Stralsund , the Angermünde-Schwedt Railway to Schwedt and a disused branch line to Bad Freienwalde . The station ensemble is a listed building.

history

The station was opened on November 15, 1842 by the Berlin-Stettiner Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (BStE) with the line from Berlin. On August 15, 1843, the extension to Stettin went into operation. In the following years, with the opening of the lines to Stralsund (1863), Schwedt (1873) and Bad Freienwalde (Oder) (1877), the station developed into an important hub. As this meant that high numbers of passengers were to be expected, the rather smaller reception building was replaced by a larger one in 1861. Two years later, a passenger tunnel to the platforms was built.

In 1879 the BStE was taken over by the Prussian State Railways . The station was initially designed as an island station , the station building stood between the tracks. In 1906 the tracks were redesigned and all tracks were moved to the west side of the building.

With the connection to the PCK refinery in Schwedt , the station was expanded somewhat. Three main tracks were added. The section between Angermünde and Passow , which was dismantled after 1945 , was rebuilt and a new connecting curve was created between the Kerkow and Erichshagen junctions . This track existed from September 30, 1973 to October 7, 1996.

On December 20, 1987, electrical operation began on the section between Eberswalde and Passow . The electrification of the section to Prenzlau was completed on March 6, 1989, and the branch line to Schwedt on December 11, 2005 . In mid-2002, work on the track and safety systems began. The cost of this was 155 million. It was possible to dispense with more than 100 switches that were no longer needed. In contrast, 15 points were newly installed. The platforms for regional traffic in the direction of Schwedt have been redesigned. A new platform for long-distance traffic with two platform edges was created. A 140 meter long platform for regional traffic to Szczecin has been inserted into it. This is also used for the reinforcement trips of the RB 62 between Angermünde and Prenzlau . The security technology of 34 crossings was replaced by a new system. A new electronic signal box was put into operation from July 2nd to 11th, 2005 with control computers in Chorin and Eberswalde. In August, work began on redesigning the platform underpass and building three elevators. During the renovation, the tracks still had to be accessible. Therefore, a wooden bridge was temporarily built to span the tracks. The renewal of the platforms was completed on December 11, 2005, the entire work in May 2006. Eight new bus stops with roofs and car parking spaces were built on the station forecourt.

The old building later served as a post office and police station and had not been used since the early 1990s. In November 2011 the building was demolished. Its forecourt is now used as a car and bicycle parking lot.

The equipment for freight traffic was no longer in operation and could therefore largely be removed. Trains are no longer being formed or disbanded at Angermünde station. However, freight traction units are temporarily parked here. Many PCK traffic locomotives from Schwedt have been standing in Angermünde for a longer time. Since the local depot no longer exists and higher fees are charged at Stendell station , the locomotives are housed on operating tracks.

Investments

Angermünde train station is west of Angermünde's city center . The station building is to the east of the tracks. The station consists of two island platforms with four tracks for passenger traffic, at the northern end of the western platform there is an additional head track. The freight transport facilities are located north of the passenger station. The line to Schwedt branches off from the other lines directly in the platform area, which means that the trains to Schwedt can only use tracks 1 and 2.

Platforms and tracks

At the time of its greatest size, Angermünde had 15 main tracks. Six of them had a covered platform. The total length of the main tracks was almost 10,600 meters. The 52 side tracks had a length of 11,665 meters. All of the tracks in Angermünde station, apart from workshops and connections, were 23 kilometers long. 120 turnouts and 35 main signals were in use. Five of them were entry signals . Two were used as entry signals for left-hand traffic. The main signals included 13 intermediate and 15 exit signals . These systems were controlled by a dispatcher and four guards.

From December 7, 1909 to 1945, there was a 4,370 meter long exit option from the freight train tracks in a northerly direction.
