Kerkow is a district of the city of Angermünde in the Uckermark district in Brandenburg .

Geographical location

The district is north of the city center. To the northwest lies the further district of Mürow . This is followed in a clockwise direction by the Henriettenhof residential area, the Dobberzin district , the city center in the south, the Gehegemühle residential area and the Görlsdorf district in the northwest . The north-western part of the district is in the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve . The Dievenitzgraben flows from the north-west in a south-easterly direction through the town and flows into the Mündesee outside the town . The majority of the district is used for agriculture; only in the north is a small piece of forest.

history

A von Kerkow family was mentioned in documents from the 13th century. The local community therefore regards the year 1236 as its first documentary mention. The place itself did not appear until 1348, when the False Woldemar of the city of Angermünde headed "dat dorp tho Kerkow und die gantze marcke dez dorpes und alle, dat in der marcke lecht". The fact that Kerkow was already settled at that time is also proven by the fact that there was a stone church in the village as early as the middle of the 13th century . This building was supplemented by a two- bay star vault in the 15th century . After 1468 a hitherto unknown person buried a treasure consisting of almost 500 coins in the church cemetery . This was salvaged during construction work in 1931.

After the Thirty Years' War there was a dispute between the Kerkow landlord and the city of Angermünde. Since the city held shares in the village, it sought a say in the church patronage. This was awarded to the von Redern -Görlsdorf family in 1673 , who owned the place until the 18th century. Wilhelm Heinrich Graf von Redern has come down to us from 1757.

According to Bratring, there were eleven whole farmers, 18 residents, a blacksmith and a jug in the village of Kerckow in 1805 . At that time, Kerkow had 224 people who operated 22 fireplaces and managed a total of 48 hooves . A court marshal von Redern is entered as the owner in Brating's statistical-topographical description of the entire Mark Brandenburg .

Around 1900 there was still a forge in the village , which will be a listed building in 2019. In 1974 lightning struck the church and damaged the structure considerably.

On October 26, 2003, Kerkow was incorporated into Angermünde.
