Biesenbrow is a district of Angermünde in the Uckermark district in the northeast of Brandenburg .
geography
Biesenbrow lies on a ground moraine island in the Welsebruch . The Bruch is a flat meadow landscape , the surrounding heights are mostly used for agriculture .
Surname
The oldest forms of the name are Bismarow (1354), Bismero (1355) and Byssemerow (1370). As early as 1457, the place appears in today's spelling. Byssemerow can be derived from the German personal name Busse, which was added to the common Slavic place name Merow (Mürow, Mirow) for better differentiation. Based on the word Biesenbrow, a combination of Slavic bes for 'elderberry' and brog for 'dam' is assumed.
history
Finds of flint blades show that the place was already inhabited in the Neolithic . Numerous finds have also been made in and around the village from the Bronze and Iron Ages . The Germanic tribes that lived here until the Migration Period are counted among the Burgundians . A rich coin find indicates settlement in the 6th century AD. At the latest after the immigration of the Slavs, one can speak of settlement continuity. In the course of the German colonization in the east of Biesenbrow in the 12th century, a castle was built to cover the catfish crossing between Greiffenberg and Passow . But the colonization passed too quickly over the place, so that the city that had developed nearby also fell back into insignificance.
Biesenbrow is mentioned by name for the first time when the place had to be handed over to the Pomeranian dukes by Margrave Ludwig II in 1354 . In 1292 there is already talk of a Johannes Byssemarowe, a name that is derived from the place Bysmerow. In 1485 Biesenbrow received city rights, which was revoked from the place in 1618.
During the Thirty Years War the place was plundered and devastated several times. Over 250 people died of the plague during the same period . During the Seven Years' War between 1756 and 1763, the village again suffered from looting . In the liberation struggle against Napoleon in 1813-15, nine men from Biesenbrow lost their lives. Another 19 men died in the First World War . To commemorate them, a war memorial was erected in the center of the village in 1920 .
Major fires in which parts of the village were destroyed are recorded from the years 1728 and 1909.
In the Second World War 28 inhabitants died, another 59 died of typhus in 1945 .
In 2003, Biesenbrow is incorporated into the city of Angermünde, despite violent protests from its residents.
