Location of Crussow in Brandenburg

Crussower Feldsteinkirche

Crussow is a village with almost 600 inhabitants on the south-eastern edge of the Uckermark in north-eastern Germany. It is located in the Uckermark district to the east of Angermünde and has been part of this city since October 26, 2003.

The surroundings of Crussow are flat to hilly and characterized by wide fields. The shield mountains between the main town and Neuhof reach 68 meters above sea level. Forest areas are to the northeast and southeast of Crussow (Gellmersdorfer Forst). There are many small ponds without drainage in the area, larger lakes can be found in a north-westerly direction near Dobberzin ( Petschsee , Dobberziner See ). A special airfield for ultralight aircraft is operated between Crussow and Dobberzin .

The name Crussow comes from Slavic and could be derived from krusa (pear) or krus / kruzs ( lump of salt). The derivation from a name is also conceivable. The districts of Neuhof and Henriettenhof belong to Crussow. The latter has been documented since 1808 and is named after the wife of the owner August Wilhelm Bernsee, who bought the Vorwerk in 1861.

Crussow was first mentioned in a document in 1335 and was initially under the influence of the Chorin monastery . However, evidence of the existence of St. Anne's Church in Crussow dates back to 1256, so that the 750th anniversary celebrations could take place in June 2006. Until 1745 the place was owned by the von Aschersleben zu Crussow family and was one of the largest villages in the Ostuckermark. During the Thirty Years' War many farms fell into desolation ; in 1624 there were still 16 farmers and 11 kossas . The last owner before 1945 was Mrs. von Langen-Steinkeller zu Birkholz, whose family came from Neumark on the other side of the Oder .

In 1897 there were around 600 inhabitants in Crussow. With a merchant, a mill master, a shoemaker, the distillery and the blacksmith, the village was considered wealthy in the area at that time. An LPG was founded in 1953 . In 1959 a village academy followed which trained farmers.

In the 19th century, the owner of the Vorwerk Henriettenhof discovered 33 hewn stone boxes in a field , which, according to research by archaeologists , were about 5000 years old. Some grave goods and a human skeleton from the Neolithic age are now kept in the Ehm Welk and Heimatmuseum Angermünde.

The stone church in Crussow dates from the 2nd half of the 13th century, its bronze bell from 1543. After the church was closed in 1967 because of the risk of collapse, it was consecrated again in 1988 after five years of renovation work.

After initial immigration from the surrounding area after the fall of the Wall in 1990, the population of Crussow has been falling for several years.

The local mayor of Crussow is Ulrich Büttner.

The club life in the place is determined by the village club Crussow 2001 eV , the DAV Crussow eV , the Flugsportverein Crussow eV , the local group of the people's solidarity Crussow and the sports club SG Crussow .
