history

In 1287 the place was first mentioned as Marcgrevendorp and as Markgrafendorf (Middle High German: Marggreuendorp ) in 1354. From 1354 until the Battle of Angermünde (1420) it belonged to Pomerania , since then it has belonged to Brandenburg . In 1576 it came to the electoral office of Chorin as Smarkendorp .

During the Thirty Years' War it was sacked by imperial troops in 1628, conquered by Swedish troops in 1631, and taken back by imperial troops in 1637. After the outbreak of the plague it was abandoned completely and was only in 1685 after the Edict of Potsdam of the Great Elector mainly by Huguenots settled again.

In 1763, settlers from the Palatinate settled here . Among them the German-Reformed Palatinate colonist and farmer Hartmann Diet (e) rich (* 1724/25 in Pfiffligheim (today a district of Worms), † July 12, 1796 in Schmargendorf). Hartmann Diet (e) rich is the great-great-grandfather of the famous actress Marlene Dietrich . His grandson Christian Dietrich built the “Dietrichs Etablissement” inn (later renamed “Berliner Hof”) in Angermünde in 1865, where Marlene Dietrich's father, Louis Erich Otto Dietrich, was born. Descendants of Hartmann Diet (e) rich still live in Schmargendorf today.

Around 1900, around 500 people lived in about 75 houses in Schmargendorf. On October 26, 2003 the Angermünde-Land office was dissolved, and Schmargendorf became part of Angermünde with 317 inhabitants.

  • The field stone church of Schmargendorf was built like that of the Berlin sister in the middle of the 13th century. The square tower in front of it in the west, rising from below, was rebuilt in 1745 and replaced the old damaged tower. It has a curved hood covered with slate and a drum-shaped copper-plated attachment with a slender tip. The weather vane above the pommel bears the year 1745 and the initials FR ( Fridericus Rex ). The height of the tower is 30 m.
  • Old village smithy, now used as a blacksmith and farmer's museum
