history
The area around the local situation Steinhöfel was verifiably already around 3000 years BC. Settled, which can be confirmed by Mesolithic finds near the locality. Between 400 and 900 AD the area was settled by the Ukranians . The founding of today's Steinhöfels probably took place at the beginning of the 13th century by German hermits . This is also indicated by the village church, which must have been built around the year 1220. In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg Steynhovel was mentioned in the year 1375 as a village with 54 Hufen , this mention is the first documented mention of the place. The place name can be translated as "stony hill". The land book names a Bertram von Greifenberg as the owner of eight hooves in the village.
From 1593 Steinhöfel was divided in half between the von Sparr and von Redern zu Görlsdorf families . Since Steinhöfel was then on the trade route between Greiffenberg and Joachimsthal , there was a customs office there at that time. During the Thirty Years War , large parts of Steinhöfel were destroyed; in 1688, twelve of the original 20 farm sites were devastated . Around 1865 there was a brick factory in Steinhöfel , but it was not in operation for long. From 1914 the streets in Steinhöfel were paved, in 1923 the place was connected to the power grid. After the end of the Second World War , Steinhöfel recorded a large increase in population due to the reception of refugees from the German eastern areas.
Until 1952 Steinhöfel belonged to the Angermünde district , which was part of the Prussian province of Brandenburg until 1946 . After the GDR district reform, the place belonged to the Angermünde district in the Frankfurt (Oder) district . On January 1, 1957, the communities Friedrichsfelde and Neuhaus were incorporated into Steinhöfel. The following year an agricultural production cooperative was established. In 1973 the local school was closed.
Steinhöfel has belonged to the Uckermark district since the turnaround and the Brandenburg district reform in 1993 . On October 26, 2003, the place was incorporated into Angermünde.
