Greiffenberg has been part of the city of Angermünde in northeast Brandenburg since October 26, 2003 . Until the incorporation, the official name of the Uckermark country town was Greiffenberg (Uckermark) .

Geographical location

The former country town is about eight kilometers from Angermünde not far from the border with Poland . Greiffenberg is located on the federal road 198 (Angermünde - Prenzlau ) and can be reached via the A 11 (junction Pfingstberg ). Greiffenberg is located on the river Sernitz , which flows around the former town to the south. A little outside of the village this flows into the catfish .

The residential areas Greiffenberg Siedlung, Peetzig and Zollende as well as historically the abandoned Siebershof residential area belong to the district or to the district of Greiffenberg .

history

Greiffenberg was first mentioned as a place in 1261. The castle Greiffenberg located in Welsetal, built in the 13th century (1224) and has been constructed to replace an earlier building pagan in brick construction. The castle, which can only be viewed as a ruin, is raised on the outskirts of Greiffenberg in the immediate vicinity of an old distillery from the 19th century. The gate complex, which is large for this small castle complex, is remarkable.

Personalities

In Greiffenberg were born:

  • Max Jenne (1848–1921), pharmacist, founder and partner in a wholesale business for drugs and chemicals in Lübeck and long-time local politician there.
  • Johannes Bürger (1860–1915), the son of a pharmacist, ran pharmacies in Vetschau and Halberstadt and in 1903 founded today's Ysat factory in Wernigerode.
