Johannes Bürger

Johannes Bürger (born February 2, 1860 in Greiffenberg (Uckermark) , † February 10, 1915 in Wernigerode ) was a German pharmacist and entrepreneur. He founded the Ysat factory in Wernigerode and developed several drugs.

Life

Bürger came from a Swabian - Franconian family. He attended the Greiffenberg city school and from 1872 to 1879 the high school in Prenzlau . Then he began an apprenticeship in his home town in his father's "Black Eagle Pharmacy". He passed the assistant examination in Potsdam in 1882 and then worked in two Mecklenburg pharmacies. In 1883/84 he stayed in Wernigerode for the first time, where he did an internship in the court pharmacy. After military service in Hanover (1884-1885), he completed his assistantship in his father's pharmacy in 1886, then he studied in 1886 and 1887 at the universities of Berlin and Rostock . At the latter he passed the pharmaceutical state examination in 1887.

Johannes Bürger took over his father's pharmacy in Greiffenberg in 1888, which he sold two years later. In 1896 he bought the pharmacy there in Vetschau . There it undertook u. a. Try making medicines from the leaves of the thimble. In 1900 he moved to Halberstadt as a pharmacy owner , where he took over the council pharmacy . In 1902 he also sold this pharmacy and in 1903 founded the company Chemisches Laboratorium Wernigerode am Harz, Bürger & Weinhagen with his colleague Weinhagen . However, the high expectations in this company were initially not fulfilled. Weinhagen left him in 1904. Bürger specialized in his so-called "Ysate" (plant extracts) and experienced a lively demand for them. Due to increasing illness, he withdrew more and more from production, in 1910 he took on the pharmacist Brömel as a partner. He himself died five years later. His widow now took over the company.
