Gianni Dova (born January 8, 1925 in Rome , Italy , † October 14, 1991 in Pisa , Italy) was an Italian painter .

Life

Gianni Dova moved to Milan in 1939 . There he first studied at the Liceo Artistico and later at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera . He got to know the artists Roberto Crippa and Lucio Fontana , with whom he worked closely from 1947. Gianni Dova was one of the leading artists of the Italian, avant-garde artist movement " movimento spazialista ", which included Roberto Crippa and Lucio Fontana as well as Giorgio Kaisserlian , Beniamino Joppolo , Milena Milani , Sergio Dangelo , Carlo Cardazzo and Cesare Peverelli .

Gianni Dova's pictorial work is characterized by a fantastic, surrealist character, which he composed with abstract elements. Dova's art gained wide international recognition in the 1950s and 1960s. He was also a participant in documenta 2 in Kassel in 1959 . Dova lived and worked in Rome for most of his life. He is one of the most important representatives of abstract art after the Second World War .
