Milani was born the daughter of a railroad worker. She attended La Sapienza University in Rome and, at the age of nineteen, recited her poems at the fascist Littorali of the Arts of 1941 in Sanremo . She published reports on the arts during the war and the life of German female students in the magazine of the fascist university youth Gruppo Universitario Fascista (GUF) Roma Fascista .

After the Second World War , she worked with the Italian artist and gallery owner Carlo Cardazzo from 1946 to 1963 in his Galleria del Naviglio in Milan until his death . She became part of the Spazialismo movement initiated by Lucio Fontana . She signed all the manifestos of Spazialismo and participated with her own works and writings in the most important exhibitions of the group, which includes not only Fontana and Cardazzo but also artists such as Roberto Crippa and Gianni Dova . From 1965 onwards she exhibited her works in various galleries in Italy.

Publications

Milani's novel La ragazza die nome Giulio (A Girl Called Julius), published in 1964, caused a scandal in Italy. The book should be confiscated. The author was charged with offending common decency and sentenced to 6 months in prison and a fine of several hundred thousand lire . Many intellectuals in the country campaigned for the author, including Giuseppe Ungaretti . The appeal hearing process ended in 1967 with an acquittal. Her other book Io donna e gli altri (Me and the others) was published by Longanesi in 1983.
