Theodor August Stein
Theodor August Stein (born July 18, 1802 in Plock ; † November 12, 1876 in Berlin ) was a German architect and secret government and building adviser in Prussia .
Life
Stein grew up in Plock, then Prussia, as the son of a post office clerk. He first learned court clerks. After he had passed the surveyor's examination in 1825, he began his studies in Berlin, where he passed his examination as a construction manager for land and hydraulic engineering in 1829. Under Karl Friedrich Schinkel he was involved in the renovation work at the grammar school to the gray monastery in Berlin. In 1830 he began working for the Prussian government in Potsdam and Gumbinnen . From 1837 he was a building inspector in Danzig , and from 1842 he was appointed to the Ministerial Building Commission in Berlin. With Ludwig Persius he was involved in the construction of the Bethanien Diakonissenhaus in Berlin and after Persius' death led the construction of the house. From 1849 he worked as a government and building councilor in Aachen , where he was involved in the construction of several church buildings.
In the mid-1850s, Stein turned to railroad construction. In 1856 he became chairman of the royal commission for the construction of the Kreuz-Küstrin-Frankfurter railway . Among other things, he was involved in the design of several bridges on the route. After the successful completion of the project, Stein was appointed a secret councilor. Subsequently, he worked for the Berlin-Stettiner Eisenbahngesellschaft (BStE) and managed the geometric preparatory work for the construction of the branch line from Angermünde to Stralsund . As a result, he was given responsibility for building construction. He designed a number of station buildings along the route. In 1863 he became Technical Director at BStE. As a result, he led the construction work on other branches of the BStE, including Strasburg – Stettin (1866), Eberswalde – Wriezen (1867) and Köslin - Stolp - Danzig (1870). From 1872 to 1876 he directed the construction of the new Stettiner Bahnhof in Berlin . In 1876 he took over the chairmanship of the BStE. On November 12 of the same year he died in Berlin.
