Halmstad – Nässjö railway line to Nässjö

The Reftele – Gislaved railway was an 18-kilometer standard-gauge railway in Sweden . It was built by Halmstad – Nässjö Järnvägsaktiebolag (HNJ), a private railway company , between Reftele and Gislaved .

history

Already at the opening of the main line of Halmstad – Jönköpings Järnvägsaktiebolag (HJJ), the Halmstad – Nässjö railway line , there was talk of a branch line to Gislaved. The realization of these plans was postponed again and again because of other important projects. In 1896, the HJJ's successor company, Halmstad – Nässjö Järnvägsaktiebolag (HNJ), planned to build a line from Smålandsstenar to Rävlanda or, alternatively, from Reftele via Gislaved to Bosebo .

At the same time, however, the Borås – Alvesta Järnvägsaktiebolag (BAJ) applied for a concession for the same route. The HNJ then applied in turn to wait before granting the concession until its own design for the Reftele – Kinna – Rävlanda line had been completed. This was refused and the concession for the BAJ's proposal was granted on December 31, 1897. Now the HNJ applied for a permit for the Reftele – Gislaved route, which was granted on November 4, 1898.

A. Qvistgaard made a cost estimate, it was expected to be 626,500 crowns . Construction work began on November 13, 1899, and on December 22, 1901, the 18.4-kilometer route was opened to the public. 15 kilometers were built with rails weighing 31 kg / m per meter, rails with a weight per meter of 28 kg / m were used for a further 3.39 kilometers.

The station in Gislaved was used together with the Borås – Alvesta Järnvägsaktiebolag (BAJ) from November 1, 1925 , when they started operating the Gislaved – Hestra railway . After the cessation of passenger traffic, a new freight loading point Gislaved nya became the terminus of the Reftele freight trains. A bus station was built on the station premises.

nationalization

As part of the general nationalization of the railway , the line with the HNJ passed into state ownership on July 1, 1945, with Statens Järnvägar taking over management .

Shutdown

In the course of increasing individual traffic, passenger traffic on the route was stopped on September 1, 1962. Almost 30 years later, freight traffic also came to an end. The last train ran on the Anderstorp – Gislaved nya section on January 8, 1990 and between Reftele and Anderstorp on September 30, 1990.

The Gislaved – Gislaved nya section was dismantled in 1982; some of the tracks between Gislaved nya and Anderstorp were removed in 1992 and the rest in 1996.
