The Saarbrücken - Von der Heydt railway was a single-track connecting railway to the von der Heydt mine .

history

In 1849 the mine tunnel named after the future Prussian minister von der Heydt was cut in the Köllertal forest . Since the railway line through the Sulzbachtal was also planned at the same time, it was decided to build a connecting line from Saarbrücken . On November 15, 1852, the line was opened at the same time as the von der Heydt mine.

Around 1906, the Reichsbahn built a repair shop in Burbach , which is now part of Saarbrücken . This was connected to the line in 1906 via a hairpin in the von der Heydt station. A stop was set up specifically for rush hour traffic to the repair shop. Via the hairpin in von der Heydt, only goods traffic to the repair shop was handled. Passenger traffic to von der Heydt was discontinued on October 4, 1959, from then on the passenger trains to the repair shop stop only ran during the shift change times of the plant.

On June 1, 1986, all public passenger traffic was discontinued, after which there were still non-public personnel trips until 1986. Until the closure of the AW in 1997, goods traffic to supply the plant with damaged goods wagons continued. The line was closed on September 30, 1999.
