The so-called Forbacher Bahn is historically the extension of the Palatinate Ludwigsbahn coming from the east (more precisely: Ludwigshafen ) , which had reached Homburg in 1848 , a year later the Bavarian-Prussian border at Bexbach and finally Neunkirchen (Saar) in 1850 . In the year after next, on November 15, 1852, they had worked their way through Saarbrücken to Forbach .

history

Prussia did not expand the railway lines as quickly as it had progressed in the Bavarian Palatinate despite topographical difficulties ; in Berlin they were not yet convinced of the economic efficiency. The Bexbach – Forbach section , built by the Royal Direction of the Saarbrücken Railway and included in the Nahe Valley Railway in 1858 , became Prussia's first state railway.

The line from Metz to Forbach had already been completed by the Chemin de fer de l'Est a year earlier . Today the Saarbrücken – Forbach– Rémilly section is part of the international connection Frankfurt (Main) - Kaiserslautern - Saarbrücken - Paris , which is served by high-speed trains.

business

Since 2007, Forbach can be reached by ICE or TGV in 1 hour and 40 minutes from Paris. TER Lorraine trains also run regularly from Metz or Forbach to Saarbrücken. A special feature is that diesel multiple units of the type X 73900 are used on the Forbach – Saarbrücken section , even though the line is electrified . Trains of the Z 24500 and Z 11500 series are used on the Metz – Forbach section .

Between the Saar railway junction with a system of separation (approximately at kilometer 2.0) and the Ausfädelung the route Fürstenhausen near the German-French border frequented by 2006 at the Saarmesse between the stop Roman fort , the Saarbrücken exhibition station and the train Fürstenhausen as fair line designated Line S2 of the Saarbahn (Saarbrücken Stadtbahn) also via the Forbacher Bahn.

The two most important stops today are Forbach ( border station and stopping point for all trains, including most ICE / TGV trains) and Béning ( transfer point on the route to Sarreguemines ).
