The Sicignano degli Alburni – Lagonegro railway is a single-track, non- electrified railway line in Italy and connects the regions of Campania and Basilicata . There has been no regular traffic on the route for years.

history

The history of the railway line is closely related to the construction of the Tirrenica Meridionale railway line . In 1879 it was decided that the construction of a railway connection between Battipaglia and Reggio-Calabria should take place on the one hand through the Vallo di Diano and on the other hand through the Cilento via Valle della Lucania . The construction of the route through the Vallo di Diano began very slowly and was very arduous due to the difficult conditions. The first part of the route to Sala Consilina was opened on December 30, 1886. When the route to Lagonegro was opened in May 1892, further construction of the route was stopped.

In the 1970s, the route was threatened several times by landslides. Due to the increasing dilapidation, the train service was finally shut down in 1987 and replaced by a bus line. However, the route remained formally active. In 2012 the connection point at Sicignano degli Alburni was expanded and the line was thus separated from the rest of the network.
