Sala Consilina is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 12,116 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Salerno in the Campania region and part of the Comunità Montana Vallo di Diano . The patron saint of the place is the Archangel Michael . Sala Consilina was a Catholic bishopric until the 8th century. Today the titular bishopric Oppidum Consilinum exists .

Location of the municipality in the province of Salerno

Sala Consilina is located southeast of Salerno and north of the Cilento . Not far is the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park . The municipality covers an area of ​​almost 60  km² . The place is at an altitude of 614 meters above sea level. The districts ( frazioni ) are Quattro Querce ( Four Oaks ), Grecia, San Raffaele, San Rocco, San Sebastiano, Sant'Antonio, Sant'Eustachio, Santo Leo, Santo Stefano and Trinità.

The municipality borders the province of Potenza . The neighboring communities are Atena Lucana , Brienza (PZ), Marsico Nuovo (PZ), Padula , Sassano and Teggiano .

Sports

The place was the last arrival point of the 2nd stage of the Giro d'Italia in 1990 .

Sala Consilina is on the A2 autostrada . In Sala Consilina there is a train station on the Sicignano degli Alburni – Lagonegro line .
