Vallo della Lucania ( Vallo for short ) is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 8,290 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Salerno in the Campania region . The administration of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park is based in Vallo della Lucania. The place is also the seat of the Comunità Montana Zona del Gelbison e Cervati and the Roman Catholic diocese Vallo della Lucania . The patron saint of the place is St. Pantaleon .

Vallo della Lucania is located south of Salerno in the Cilento . The three districts ( frazioni ) are Angellara, Massa Lucania and Pattano. The Monte Gelbison is located in the municipality .

The neighboring municipalities are Cannalonga , Castelnuovo Cilento , Ceraso , Gioi , Moio della Civitella , Novi Velia and Salento .

Economy and Infrastructure

As one of the largest cities in the region, Vallo della Lucania is the economic and educational center of the Cilento.

The Istituto Musicale "R. Goitre", founded by Santina De Vita, is the musical center that stands for musical education in the Cilento.

The Vallo della Lucania-Castelnuovo train station is located in the Vallo Scalo district of Casal Velino on the Naples – Reggio di Calabria line .

In addition to the state hospital of the municipality, there is also the private clinic "Cobellis", which is located in Vallo della Lucania.
