Cannalonga is a village with 1009 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Salerno in Campania .
The place is part of the National Park Cilento and Vallo di Diano , as well as the Comunità Montana Zona del Gelbison e Cervati . The next town is called Vallo della Lucania and is three kilometers to the south.

history

The village was created by the Greeks between the 9th and 10th centuries. It became famous in the region around 1450 when the tradition of the Fiera di Santa Lucia festival began. Today the festival is better known under the name Fiera della Frecagnola.

etymology

Some people believe that the name comes from the large number of bamboo plants ( Canne di bambù in Italian ) that are found in the area. Others claim that the name was derived from the old unit of measurement "canna".

  • Bollito di capra (Goat meat cooked according to an old traditional recipe. It is served as a specialty at the Fiera della Frecagnola festival)
