Pruno (Cilento)

Pruno is a spacious settlement in a secluded wooded area in the center of the Cilento . It is distributed over the municipal areas of Valle dell'Angelo , Laurino and Piaggine in the province of Salerno ( Campania ). It has about 40 residents.

The place lies at 600 to 1300 m slm. Adjacent communities are Cannalonga , Campora , Rofrano , Sanza , Novi Velia and Monte San Giacomo .

Pruno is located in the center of the Cilento National Park in a wooded mountain landscape. It is one of the most sparsely populated areas in southern Italy and therefore represents a particularly pristine landscape. Pruno is very isolated and is often cut off from the outside world in winter. The residents operate an ecological agriculture that is designed to live as self-sufficiently as possible. In addition, Pruno is a destination for tourists.

Pruno is administratively divided into three villages ( Frazioni ), each of which belongs to one of the neighboring municipalities. The area code is (+39) 0974. The demonym for the residents is Prunesi .

• Pruno di Valle dell'Angelo ( zip code 84070) has about ten inhabitants and is one of the last purely agricultural villages in Europe . It lies west of Pruno di Laurino and east of Pruno di Piaggino.
• Pruno di Laurino (zip code 84057) has about 25 inhabitants and is located on the provincial road Piaggine-Rofrano. It is located on the Fosso di Pruno river and below the Monte Raia del Pedale.
• Pruno di Piaggine (zip code 84065) has about seven inhabitants and is located west of Pruno di Valle dell'Angelo on Monte Gelbison.
