Richard Gordon Turnbull
Sir Richard Gordon Turnbull GCMG (born July 7, 1909 in St Albans , † December 21, 1998 in Cirencester , Gloucestershire ) was a British colonial administrator.
Important offices
Turnbull became governor of Tanganyika on July 15, 1958 . Along with the independence of Tanganyika on December 9, 1961, he became Governor General and Julius Nyerere was the country's Prime Minister. After the founding of the republic on December 9, 1962, Nyerere became president and thus the new head of state of Tanganyika.
From December 21, 1964 to May 22, 1967 he was High Commissioner of the South Arab Federation .
